Le Coire Family History
[Copied from a post by ahar]
The earliest Le Coire recorded was Arabella le Coire in, I believe, the 15th century. She was arrested as a witch, imprisoned... and then released, pardoned, and married to the lord of the manor. There is no doubt in family history as to how she managed that turn-around.
I don't know the history of the le Coire family before Arabella. It's likely that she was just a simple human witch, a practicioner, who in her desperation while awaiting execution managed to make a very powerful connection- possibly to an elemental (but not Leona).
The thing for which the le Coire are most noted is simple, human manipulation. Members of the le Coire family, even on neutral ground, are very charismatic, hard to say no to- which is one reason the family is worth multi-million dollar in modern day. For example, if a le Coire walked up to you on the street, smiled, and asked you for your wallet, cell phone, car keys, and all your money, you might give it to him, or at least seriously consider it; if you really value these things, and decide not to give them away, you'll probably assume it's a joke and just be amused... and quite possibly ask if they need a loan, to make a call, a ride somewhere, etc. On the other hand, if while on the le Coire Estate (in West Roxbury [just think outer Boston, for you non-natives]) one of the family asked you to sign away your entire life savings, your children, and your internal organs, you would happily sign away, and maybe even insist on having your lawyer come over to make sure it was all done legally and there weren't any problems later (y'know, when you realize you like that kid). I've said it before; no one says no to a le Coire in his own home.
This is the trait for which the le Coire are most known. I don't know a lot about their extended abilities, but I know that with ritual they can accomplish much more- Ryan hasn't let me in on that part of his life yet.
The driving goal of the le Coire for centuries has been to discover exactly who Arabella was, and what she did to achieve such power in the first place. Though they tend to disdain traditional education in general, le Coire have in the past often also studied as archaeologists and scholars of history, language, and mysticism.
I know that Ryan was very close to his mother (who was born a le Coire), but not so close to his father, who ended up leaving when he was four years old (not so fond of the family focus on the occult). The family certainly isn't like the Vidas, or any of the Macht witches, in that it doesn't have any specific creed or laws; it's a human family with some rather unique heirlooms and traditions.
Ryan is the only living member of his line. He is personally convinced that Arabella bound herself to an earth elemental, and his goal is to find a way to summon it.

The le Coire manor
The le Coire family manor has been around for a long time and will react to defend a le Coire. For anyone to enter the home or the surrounding estate, they must have an invitation from a blood-relative (a le Coire).
To quote ahar, "The Le Coire family is incredibly powerful, especially in their own home. No one enters the Le Coire estate without an invitation from a blood relative, and once there, to put it bluntly, no one says no to a Le Coire. The entire estate responds to the will of the family, as does anyone inside."
A question from Tobin: What happens if two Le Coire fight? How does the house react?
Answer: "I haven't had to test it, since in the time period I'm working with, Ryan is the only living decendent. However, I'd imagine the house would be confused, though it might favor the elder. And of course, it will always favor a born-to-the-family le Coire over an in-law."
